Brewery owners, 1000 fans, beats 20000 followers!
“I just need more followers.”
Do you though?
Or do you need better ones?
There’s this idea called the “1,000 true fans” theory introduce by a clever chap called Kevin Kelly.
In simple terms it suggest:
You don’t need thousands of people vaguely aware of you.
You need a small group who actually care.
Who turn up.
Who buy.
Who bring their mates.
Who ask what’s pouring next before you’ve even announced it.
Let’s put it into some context for your glorious brewerry…
You’ve got two options:
Option A
20,000 Instagram followers
Taproom half empty
New releases… polite interest at best
Option B
1,000 proper fans
Taproom buzzing
New drops selling out
People dragging their mates down saying “you need to try this place”
Which one pays the bills?
Exactly.
The mistake I often see is…
Breweries chasing attention instead of building connection.
Trying to appeal to everyone.
Watering things down.
Playing it safe.
And ending up… forgettable.
The breweries that win?
They pick their people.
They stand for something.
They show up consistently.
And they give people a reason to care.
Not just once.
Every time.
So instead of asking:
“How do I get more followers?”
Try this:
“How do I turn the people I’ve got into proper fans?”
Because that’s where the magic happens.
And that’s where the money is.
Next time you’re thinking about your brand, your events, your beer names, your socials…
Ask yourself:
“Would my people love this?”
If the answer’s no, it probably needs another pass.
Anyway, I’ll leave you with that.
Now go build your 1,000.
