The Fastest Way to Make Your Brewery Completely Forgettable

Do you know the fastest way to make your brewery completely forgettable?

It’s actually a two-parter.

Part One: Look Like Everyone Else

This one pops up all the time.

You want to create a new label, pump clip, can design, bottle… whatever it happens to be.

So naturally the first thing you do is look around the market and think:

“What’s everyone else doing?”

And then the next thought tends to be:

“I kind of want to look like that because those drinkers will recognise it.”

On the surface, that logic feels sensible.

If you look like the category, you fit into the category.

But the problem is… you also disappear into the category.

You end up creating beer that looks like other beer.

It blends in beautifully.
But it doesn’t stand out.

Instead of just staring at other breweries, take a frog leap over them.

Look at:

  • Spirits brands doing wild things with bottle design

  • Automotive branding

  • Sports drinks

  • Fashion labels

  • Packaging outside of beer entirely

There is so much inspiration outside this little brewing bubble.

Why settle for looking like everyone else when you could look like no one else?

And the same goes for your story.

Having a reason to remember you beyond “good pint” matters.

When someone drinks your beer, what else happens?

  • What do they see?

  • What do they interact with?

  • What experience did they have?

  • What did they get involved in?

If all that happens is:

“Here’s your beer, cheers, see you later.”

Then you’ve missed a massive opportunity to create something memorable.

Part Two: Don’t Tell Anyone About It

The second fastest way to be forgettable?

Simply don’t tell anyone you exist.

This usually shows up as:

“We’ll put a social post out every now and again.”
“Maybe send the odd email.”
“We’ll pop up at a beer festival or two.”

That should keep things ticking over… right?

Sadly, no.

Brand awareness is a treadmill.

People have terrible memory.

If you’re not reminding them you exist, someone else will happily fill that space in their head.

Now I’m not suggesting you blast nonsense out every day.

But consistent, thoughtful communication across multiple channels is how brands stay top of mind.

Otherwise people simply forget.

Not because your beer is bad.

Because they were reminded about someone else instead.
