Making the Brewery Curtains Match the Drapes
Making the curtains match the drapes.
No, not that kind of drapes. Behave. What I mean is making sure your visuals actually match your story.
It’s all well and good knowing your message, your why, and what makes you a little bit different… but if your design doesn’t tell the same story, it all falls flat.
So, here’s a simple way to check if your brewery’s visuals are lining up with what you stand for:
1. Brand Values
Ask yourself, how do we show what we believe in? If you’re friendly and welcoming, think soft edges, rounded corners, warm tones. If you’re bold and loud, go for contrast, block shapes, solid type, and unapologetic colour.
2. Tone of Voice (Visually)
Your tone isn’t just in the words. If you’re cheeky, playful, a bit of a rascal, go illustration-heavy, maybe even kids comic-book inspired. If you’re natural, grounded, community-led, keep it simple, organic, authentic.
3. Target Audience
Design for them, not for you. Think about where your drinkers shop. What else ends up in their basket? Your cans and taproom branding should feel like they belong in their world, not just in yours.
4. Brand Messages
Got a mission like “bringing people together”? Show it through overlapping shapes, connected lines, shared moments in your imagery and symbolism. Your design can communicate connection long before your copy does.
5. Purpose & Mission
If you’re all about sustainability, show it. Use earthy textures, recycled materials, or clever details like seed paper labels. If you’re community-first, celebrate real faces, real places, and real stories.
When your visuals, values, and voice align, that’s when your brewery clicks. It’s when your brand starts to feel consistent
So this weekend, grab a beer, a pen, and a bit of paper.
Jot down your core messages.
Then ask yourself, how can we show this visually?
Get that right, and your curtains will finally match your drapes. 😉
